Sheena Ridley Sculpture Workshops

I offer two different sculpting workshops: Ferrocement Sculpture and Wax Sculpture.

The workshops are held at my home studio on a farm in the Klein Karoo and at Vermaaklikheid near Riversdale in the Western Cape. The Klein Karoo workshop is off the N9 (R62), 30kms before Uniondale or 80kms from George. Transport can be organised to and from George airport for the Klein Karoo Workshop.
Transport can be organised from Riversdale to the Vermaaklikheid workshop. Buses do run from Cape Town to Riversdale.
These are interactive courses, with comfortable accommodation available at both venues.

Ferrocement Sculpture Workshop

Ferrocement sculpture involves the welding a steel armature, placing of fine meshwork and layers of cement plaster with additives.

In this five day workshop you make a maquette. This is a small scale model or rough draft of the desired sculpture.
You learn the importance of armature and different applications of building up of form. Your completed sculpture will be about 50 x 40 x 20 cm in volume. Texture, three-dimensional form and different finishes will be learnt in this workshop.
This sculpture workshop is restricted to two students at a time.

Wax Sculpture Workshop

This is a great beginner’s course – it’s quick, fun and no experience is necessary. In this two day workshop we explore the making of a maquette. This is a small scale model or rough draft of the desired sculpture. This wax maquette will be ready for casting in bronze etc.
You learn the importance of armature and different applications of building up of form. The maquette will be about 30 x 20 x 10 cm in volume,  keeping it small enough to cope with the four day limit. Texture, three-dimensional form and different finishes will be learnt in this workshop.
This wax sculpture workshop is restricted to six students at a time.
