Zimbabwean born Sheena Ridley, a leading South African contemporary artist, has opened her Langkloof Gallery and Sculpture Garden, in the Bo-Langkloof. Nestled between the Outeniqua and Kammanassie mountain ranges, this artistic impression is surrounded and filled with creative beauty.

Sheena moved to the area ten years ago from Elgin Valley/Grabouw, where her sculpture garden, Oudebrug Gallery, attracted hundreds of viewers during the annual Elgin Open Gardens.

The Langkloof Gallery invites you to meet the artist, learn about the mediums in which she works, and see where her inspiration comes from.

Sheena’s paintings, pastels and sculptures focus on movement and stance, influenced by local settings. Her modernistic figures display clever use of light and shade, inferred movement and often a delightful touch of humour. These works are exhibited in the renovated barn (a marvel in itself) to which Sheena's workshop is attached. This allows the visitor to see her works in progress, first hand.

The sculpture garden is informal, with a mainly indigenous and water-wise ensemble of plants, and has spectacular views down the valley. Landscaping, being one of Sheena's passions, compliments her sculptural environment. Teas and light lunches are available by prior arrangement. Children are welcome. There are dogs and other farm animals on site, so please, do not bring your dogs.

The gallery is wheelchair friendly, the garden is a bit uneven, though most can be navigated.

Situated In a beautiful rural setting, you are encouraged to spend a day, or a weekend, not too far from home. Ferro-cement and plaster maquette sculpture workshops, with accommodation on site, are offered by contacting Sheena directly.
